Bruce Merry is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cape Town (UCT), with a focus on using GPUs to accelerate computations in computer graphics. After completing his PhD at UCT, he spent three years at ARM in the UK, working on tools, middleware and drivers for the Mali line of mobile GPUs, before returning to Cape Town. Bruce is a veteran competition programmer, having made the top ten in IOI, USACO, Google Code Jam, Topcoder Open and other international contests. He is also involved in coaching and organising contests, and has set problems in Topcoder and the IOI as well as several South African contests.

While a guest at the International Olympiad in Informatics in Bulgaria in 2009, I enjoyed the friendly environment and warm weather and I am very happy to be returning. I also know that Bulgaria has a high standard for programming competitors and I look forward to meeting you all.
